Inspirer. Author. Speaker. Entrepreneur.
I am a writer and speaker. I was born to write and speak….period. Now who I am as a woman, well, God gets ALL the credit for that. A long time ago, I gave God absolute rights to use my writing and speaking gifts in whatever way He chooses to. And well, HERE I AM – a woman committed to my faith in God through Yeshua, and whose passions for the arts and business have birthed this blog, my book in process and several business ventures.
So, what do you get when you blend God-developed faith, professionalism and a sometimes hood (derives from the word “neighborhood” and usually refers to an undesirable area – the ghetto) demeanor? Makeesha L. Allen. That’s me. You may say, “What a unique combination?” I could not agree more, but it’s who I am and stems from the diverse terrains of life I have had the privilege of spending my time. Although I must admit there have been times along my life journey that I questioned the various environments God allowed me to temporarily settle, as I have matured, I have come to appreciate my well-roundedness and ability to relate to all classes of people – from the streets to the boardroom. The road my life has traveled has caused me to come to KNOW God through Yeshua in a very PERSONAL way. A way that has yielded far greater results for me than anything I could have ever conjured up on my own. Isn’t it just like God to alleviate any and all discriminative boundaries created by man to show forth His goodness? He’s just AWESOME like that!!!
What Qualifies Me To Do This?
That’s easy. God QUALIFIED and CALLED me to do this. I can go on and on listing out my accomplishments, degrees, licenses, leadership positions held, etc., which I do have, but the truth is that none of those things give credence to whether or not I am qualified to do this or not. I don’t negate the value they have added to my life, but they are merely tools not qualifiers of my ability to do this at the level God intends. I have met the one and only requirement needed to do this – God called me and I am going.
I was born and raised in St. Louis, MO to a chemical engineer and accounting professional who cultivated an environment that birthed my passions for God, the arts, public speaking and business. Accepting Yeshua as my PERSONAL Lord and Savior at the tender age of nine, I had no idea just what God had in store for my life; but He sure did! Not any different than any other adolescent, I had big dreams of becoming a doctor or lawyer; a profession prevalent on my Dad’s side of the family. A lack of passion while pursuing both of these professions lead me into several years of wandering aimlessly through life not knowing what I was put on this earth to do in life. And although my life appeared hopeless to those looking from the outside in, it was just the breeding ground God needed to help me become who He created me to be. Who knew that through countless detours, unexpected God-connections, the courage to obey God’s instruction, and persistent faith, I would end up precisely where God always intended for my life to be. Again, He did! (You’ll have to read my upcoming book to learn more about my journey and the lessons God taught me along the way.)
God has called me to “through writing and speaking, teach people how to excel in life by developing and maintaining a REAL relationship with God through Yeshua.” I am wholly committed and submitted to this call every day of my life. Am I perfect? No I am not. I am allowing God to make me perfect through a continual relationship with Him through Yeshua, and being led by Holy Spirit. 1 Peter 5:10 said it best, But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.” Thank God for His grace!!!.”
A Day in My Life
I currently reside in Jacksonville, FL. By day, I work in business development as a proposal writer for an IT staffing and services company. It’s where I get to marry my love for writing with creating things to help the company I work for grow! When I’m not working, I am pursuing my PhD in Public Administration. What can I say? I love learning!!! When I’m not working or schooling, I’m faithfully serving in various capacities within my local church. Then somewhere in and through all of this, I find time to work on my book which is due to be released in 2015; among some other business ventures God and I are working on. Writing is my priority right now though. And Be Royally Submitted is where it all starts. It is my prayer that you will be one of many whose lives will be positively and significantly transformed by this blog in ways only God can.
